An Evening with George Monbiot
In the week before the Holyrood elections in 2026, George Monbiot joined Make Hope Possible for a sell-out tour taking in Glasgow, Dundee, Pitlochry and Edinburgh. We were joined on the road by Laura Webster, editor of The National; Sophie Ramsay, environmental campaigner; and Assa Samaké-Roman, journalist and podcaster.
George Monbiot is surely Britain’s best journalist. In a lifetime of investigations, he has survived by eating rats in West Papua’s rainforest, been declared legally dead in Kenya, and written 13 books, alongside his popular Guardian column.
Amongst other things, George Monbiot discussed Scottish Independence, food systems, the rise of Zack Polanski, what gives him hope and the topics of his recent book, The Invisible Doctrine: The Secret History of Neoliberalism.

Caroline Lucas in Conversation : How To Beat Right Wing Populism
In mid-march 2026 Make Hope Possible brought Caroline Lucas to Scotland to begin our series of talks about creating hope in our political sphere.
Caroline Lucas has been prominent in British politics for 25 years, including as the UK’s first Green Party MP and as a leader of the Greens in England and Wales. We heard her talk about her latest book, “Another England” in which she argues that the Right has hijacked Englishness and that, at a time of rising populism, we urgently need more diverse and inclusive stories of national identity. She was in conversation with Make Hope Possible Director, the Scottish journalist Adam Ramsay
